Signing: Robbie Bina (1-year/2-way)

As per the Grand Forks Herald, the Springfield Falcons have signed defenceman Robbie Bina to a one-year/two-way contract. Bina, who was Taylor Chorney’s linemate at UND, will find himself playing with either the Falcons or with the Stockton Thunder, the Oilers ECHL franchise.

Last season, with UND, the 5′9″ 165 lb Bina put up 2 goals and 23 assits in 43 games and career totals of 13 goals and 64 assists over 149 games. The smallish offensive defensemen should help add some depth to the Springfield lineup and may again find himself playing aside Chorney.

Remember a few years ago where there was a big deal about potential fireworks between then-Oiler Matt Greene and Geoff Paukovich at training camp over an incident occuring in college. The story goes that during a Frozen Four semi-final game between the UND, which was captained by Greene, and the University of Denver, Paukovich (Denver) hit a UND player from behind breaking their neck. Paukovich was ejected from the game and with Greene moving into the Oilers fold never had a chance at payback.

Greene and Paukovich eventually settled their differences but the injured player of contention? Robbie Bina. For more on this story, go to Hockey Future.
